This movable bridge was built in 1954 and is nearing the end of its service life. For this reason, the bridge is being replaced. The new bridge will be located about 700 meters further down the river, in Het Nieuwe Diep. This will create more space along the quay for naval vessels and other large seagoing ships. The bridge’s new location will also improve traffic flow and reduce congestion in the city center.
